چکیده

Background Wall motion together with the development of intracavity pressure and inside shear stress cause synchronous myocardial contraction and relaxation, as well as blood flow. These variables are related to cardiovascular function and disease. Assessing regional wall velocities and blood flow may therefore provide quantitative information regarding abnormalities in wall contractility and alterations in blood flow patterns. By using a retrospective 4D PC-MRI technique, this study aimed to develop a tool to simultaneously visualize and quantify both regional ventricular wall velocity and the intra-cavity blood flow pattern.

Hemodynamic Measurement Using Four-Dimensional Phase-Contrast MRI: Quantification of Hemodynamic Parameters and Clinical Applications

Recent improvements have been made to the use of time-resolved, three-dimensional phase-contrast (PC) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which is also named four-dimensional (4D) PC-MRI or 4D flow MRI, in the investigation of spatial and temporal variations in hemodynamic features in cardiovascular blood flow. The present article reviews the principle and analytical procedures of 4D PC-MRI. Vari...

Flow sensitive 4D MRI at 1.5T and 3T

flow visualization for the same volunteer examined at 1.5T (left) and 3T (right). Top: Time-average 3D PC-MRA was calculated from the 4D data and displayed as gray shaded semi transparent iso-surface. Bottom: Two emitter plane (top right) were used to generate systolic 3D steam-lines by forward / backward tracing of the measured threedirectional velocity vector field. Flow quantification was pe...

Quantification and visualization of flow in small vessels of the Circle of Willis: time-resolved three-dimensional phase contrast MRI at 7T compared with 3T

Background A promising technique to measure blood flow is timeresolved three-dimensional phase contrast MRI (PCMRI). In small structures as the Circle of Willis (CoW), the resolution of the measurement needs to be high (< 1 mm). Image quality may be compromised when SNR decreases with increasing resolution which leads to blood flow direction uncertainty and flow quantification inaccuracies. To ...

Comparison of 4D flow and 2D PC MRI blood flow quantification in children and young adults with congenital heart disease

Background Echocardiography (echo) is the primary imaging modality for assessment of aortic and pulmonary blood flow velocities. 2D phase contrast (PC) MRI provides better access to all segments of the aortic and pulmonary system and is considered the standard for evaluating blood flow. Both techniques are limited by velocity analysis in 2D planes and by single-direction velocity measurement wh...

A physiologic flow phantom for the evaluation of 4D flow MRI in the left ventricle

Background 4D PCMR has the potential to help in understanding the direct relationship between fluid and structure interaction within the cardiovascular system, to allow for 3D visualization of blood flow patterns in the heart, and to make direct wall shear stress measurements. However, the wide dynamic range of velocities in the left ventricle (LV, range of 0-200 cm/s) can create difficulties w...
